Abstract
Hantavirus is the etiologic agent of hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome(HFRS). It has been known that the natural reservoirs of Hantavirus are not only field mice but also other animals in many parts of the world. This experiment was designed
to
study on the epidemical aspect and lifecycle of Hantavirus. For this reason, we have captured wild bats from 1989 to 1992. Antibody against Hantaan virus was detected by Immunofluorescent antibody technique.
The results were as follows; The positive rate of IFA antibody in the bats was 3.40%(23 out of 677). The positive rate of antibody was analyzed detailly;among 8 species of the bats, Rhinolophus ferrum-eqinum showed 3.78%, Eptesicus serotinus
showed
3.70%. In monthly antibody positive rate, the highest rate was 11.11% in March. In aereal antibody positive rate, Chungnam showed 3.88%, Chunbuk showed 3.72%, Gyeongbuk showed 2.27%, Kangwon showed 1.52. In comparision of positive IFA antibody
rate
with
species in each area, Chunbuk, Chungnam, Gyeongbuk, and Kangwon showed 5.22%, 4.41%, 2.30%, and 1.52% for Rhinolophus ferrum-equinum respectively. Chungnam showed 3.70% for Eptesicus serotinus. According these results. we knwe that bats are
responsible
in part of the life cycle of Hantavirus.
